Simple, money. Ice Hockey UK were claiming that it cost £10k for every away trip, and that the profit from the home round wasn't high enough to pay for the away legs.

To be honest, I half-expected this after our poor showing in Zagreb. Had we played better than expected in the Worlds, we could have shown a net benefit from competing in the EIHC. But, after our worst showing in several years, I expected Ice Hockey UK to re-evaluate whether it had been worth the expense.

Unfortunately, I think we are paying the price for the clubs refusal to support our national programme.
