I was there, and I felt we played badly. OK, the scorelines were close, but both our goalies had to come up big to do that. Only Croatia couldn't outshoot us. Both France and Norway had twice our shots on goal. We were the 5th best team in the group, our position wasn't unlucky.
The problem is that the club owners don't put any value on our national side, and ultimately, Ice Hockey UK is run by the club owners (or at least a committee with a representative from each league, who in turn are representing their member club owners). It is this short-sightedness that is holding us back. 2000 and 2001 we were very close to being a Pool A nation. At this moment in time, I don't see a time when we will become a Pool A nation unless we have a massive change of heart from our self-serving team owners.
