International Leagues

EHL (European Hockey League) >>Info
Formed in 1996 to replace the European Cup and act as ice hockey's version of soccer's popular Champions League, the European Hockey League was the premier ice hockey tournament in Europe. In 2000 the IIHF pulled the plug on the league after poor response from the major nations and lacking a continental TV contract.

Continental Cup >>Info
Formed in 1997 to continue the tradition of the European Cup format and act as ice hockey's version of soccer's UEFA Cup, the Continental Cup is open to all the European IIHF member nations.

Super Cup
This one-off game puts the EHL winners up against the winners of the Continental Cup for the Orbis Magnus Cup. It started in 1997 with the last European Cup winner, then the Continental Cup winner took up the challenge. Usually played at the beginning of the following season.

Danish league action

Here we see some colourful action in the Danish league, between Rungsted Cobras (red) and 1999 runners-up Frederikshavn Whitehawks. Although many top Danish players earn their Kroner abroad, mostly in Germany and Sweden, the league is of a reasonably high standard. North American and Eastern European imports add to its flavour.
