Division 1 Info

Division 1 is the second level of hockey in France and consists of 16 teams. Teams are divided into two groups : North and South. All teams play each other once at home and once away in each group. The total number of games per team is 7+7=14. Teams ranked 1st to 4th in each group advance to the play-off round. Teams ranked 5th to 8th in each group play the play-down round. Again all teams play each other once at home and once away in each group (play-off and play-down). The total number of games per team in each group is 7+7=14.

The team ranked first in the play-off group is promoted to the Ligue Magnus. The team ranked second plays a best-of-two series against the winner of the Ligue Magnus play-out (with the Division 1 team starting at home) for a spot in Ligue Magnus next season. The team ranked last in the play-down group is relegated to Division 2. The team ranked 7th in the play-down group plays in a best-of-two series against the team ranked 2nd in Division 2 (with the Division 1 team starting away) for a spot in Division 1 next season.
