Switzerland and Germany also qualified for Turin 2006

Canada, USA, Sweden, Finland, Italy, Russia, Switzerland and Germany are the eight teams that will fight for gold in the Women's Olympic ice hockey tournament in Turin 2006.

Germany earned their spot by defeating Kazakhstan (5-0), Slovenia (10-1) and Latvia (5-1) at home in Bad Tölz.

Switzerland played their quailfication in Beijing, China and after 8-0 against Norway and 4-3 against France they needed to beat China in the final game. Switzerland pulled their goalie with less than a minute the play as the score was 2-2 and with six seconds left of the game Claudia Riechsteiner scored the goal that gave the Suiss women their tickets to Turin.

The eight qualified teams have been divided in to two groups and the top two teams of both groups qualifies for the semi finals.
