EHT: Ceska Pojistovna Cup, day 1
Czech Republic and Russia wins the opening games.
The last Euro Hockey Tour tournament of the season started today. Czech Republic hosts Ceska Pojistovna Cup and started their home tournament by beating Sweden 5-3.
The Czechs scored twice within a minute in the first period to get a 2-goal lead. When Sweden beat Czech goalie Milan Hnilicka it took only 32 seconds for Czech Republic to restore the 2-goal lead.
Karl Fabricius gave Sweden new hope with a goal at 32:41 and early in the third period Daniel Widing tied it at 3. Ondrej Vesely scored with 8 minutes remaining to take the home team ahead again and when Sweden pulled Erik Ersberg Filip Kuba closed the game with a 5-3 goal.
Russia beat Finland on home soil. Sean Bergenheim scored an early goal to take Finland ahead. Sergei Mozyakin tied the game in the beginning of the second period and the score would stay at 1-1 until 44:04. Then Sergei Zinoviev, Ilya Nikulin and Evgeny Artyukhin all scored within 5 minutes to secure a Russian win.
Aleksandr Eremenko saved 25 shots for Russia to earn the win. Vitaly Proschkin and Janne Niinimaa got game misconduct penalties for a fight a minute before the end.
Tomorrow is a day of and on Saturday Russia play Sweden and Czech Republic will face Finland.
