Russian player Mamin suspended two years for testing positive at 2008 IIHF World U20 Championship

The Disciplinary Committee of the International Ice Hockey Federation has suspended Russian player Maxim Mamin for two years from all competition or activity authorized or organized by the IIHF or any IIHF member national association.
The Deciding Panel of the committee announced the decision on June 16. Mr. Gerhard Mösslang (GER), Mr. Ivo Eusebio (SUI) and Mr. Janko Popovic (SLO) were the panel members with regards to this case.
Maxim Mamin, 21, tested positive in a random doping control on January 2, 2008 following the game Russia – Czech Republic at the 2008 IIHF World Championship in Pardubice, Czech Republic. Both the A-sample as well as the requested test of the B-sample confirmed the presence of norandrosterone, a metabolite of the anabolic steroid nandrolone.
It was furthermore confirmed that the concentration of norandrosterone was 5.4 ng/ml urine, that means higher than the WADA reporting threshold of 2ng/ml.
Tests also confirmed that the target substance was an exogenous compound that was taken from the outside and was not a product from within the body of the alleged player.
Maxim Mamin, who represents the Metallurg Magnitogorsk club in the Russian league, had three assists in seven games at the 2008 IIHF World U20 Championship, where Russia won the bronze medal. Mamin had one goal and two assists in 32 league games in with Metallurg Magnitogorsk during the 2007-2008-season. Mamin also represented Russia at the 2006 IIHF World U18 Championship in Sweden.
The period of ineligibility amounts to two (2) years, commencing on January 29, 2008 (the date of notification of the positive result of the A-sample) and will end on January 28, 2010.
