The road to Vancouver has started

The Women's team of Slovakia sets a new goal scoring record when the Olympic Qualification tournament starts.

Norway and Slovakia both advanced from the first round of the qualification to Vancouver 2010. Slovakia won group A winning all their four games with a total goal difference of 105-2. Slovakia clearly dominated all their games but only won with a two goal margin against both Latvia and Italy.

But against Bulgaria a new goal scoring record for international women's hockey was set. Slovakia was 19-0 up already halfway through the first period and the final score was unbelievable 82-0. Being a new record for women's hockey it still was ten goals short of the South Korea's 92-0 against Thailand in the 1998 U18 Asia-Oceania Championship.

In group B Norway finished with a perfect record. But the game against Austria was close and the Scandinavians only won 1-0. Great Britain however finished second after beating Austria in over time.

Norway and Slovakia will now play in the final qualification round in November. Slovakia will play in Bad Tölz, Germany against Germany, Kazakhstan and France. Norway will have a long travel to Shanghai, China where they besides the host also will play against Japan and Czech Republic.

Group A
Slovakia 12 pts
Latvia 9 pts
Italy 6 pts
Croatia 3 pts
Bulgaria 0 pts

Group B
