Russia tops Finland
Nemchinov’s team wins again with a minimal effort
After the opener victory against Latvia, Russia got yet another win against Finland junior team with a 5-2 score. Nikita Filatov scored a double and team’s first line made up of Evgeny Dadonov, Dmitry Klopov and Nikita Klyukin combined an impressive overall amount of nine points. Team Russia’s play wasn’t as spectacular as expected – or up to their potential – but they managed to turn in their favour their chances thus getting the maximal result with the minimal effort, just like they did in their first game.
The game started off with an early goal by Finland’s Lajunen, but in a four minutes span the Russians put three times the puck past Harri Säteri. At first team Captain Nikita Filatov spoiled an awful error by goalscorer Lajnunen and flipped it past the goalie. Less than two minutes later Nemchinov’s first line started their show finalizing with Dadonov at the eight and with Klopov at the eleventh minute.
The Finns didn’t give up and stricken back to 3-2 with Joonas Nättinen after a good feed by Jyri Niemi at the twenty-third, but the Russians managed to control the game and scored the fourth goal with Filatov midway through the game, and the security goal with Klopov two minutes to the final horn.
Russian goalkeeper Daniil Alistratov wasn’t much tested throughout the game and finished it with twelve saves, while his direct opponent had twenty one.
The IIHF awarded Joonas Nättinen and Nikita Filatov as players of the match for the respective teams.
