Finland survives the relegation round

Germany relegated after losing 1-3 to Finland

A solid first period was enough for Finland against Germany. Two goals in 22 seconds scored by Kivisto and Hartikainen gave Finland a 2-0 lead after a period where they outshot the Germans 16-4.

The remainder of the game was more even and Germany reduced Finland's lead in the second period by Jerome Flaake. But the period ended bad for the Germans when David Wolf was sent off with a match penalty for headbutting.

The Finns was given a chance to play a 5 on 3 in the beginning of the third and just as the fourth German skater had skated on to the ice Jyri Niemi scored what would be the last goal of the game.

The result means that Finland earns a ticket to next year's WJC while Germany is relegated to division 1 together with Kazakhstan.
