Canada and Finland first stage winners at the WJC 18

Sweden-Russia and USA-Czech Republic will play quarter finals.

Canada best Sweden 4-2 to win Group A. The two teams dominated the group but this game was not the best anyway. Canada scored twice in 36 seconds in the first period and the Swedes never caught up. The last Canadian goal was scored when Sweden had pulled goaltender Robin Lehner.

In the other game of Group A, Switzerland won 8-3 against Germany to gain important points in the Relegation series. Swiss forward Nino Niederreiter was the only 2-goal scorer of the game.

Russia got a 6-5 win against USA to finish Group B on 9 points just like Finland and USA. The Russian team anyway ended up on a third place and will face Sweden in the quarter final. USA had a 2-0 lead after the first period and Russia got the game-winning goal with only 3:49 remaining. Vladimir Tarasenko scored three goals for Russia.

Finland dominated all three periods against Slovakia and won 7-0 to win Group B and qualify for the semi finals. In the third period Slovakia only had one shot on goal. Toni Rajala was the best scorer of the game with 2 goals and 2 assists. Rajala also leads the tournament in scoring with impressing 7 goals and 9 assists.
