November 2006 - Pavel Brendl

The winner of the November European Player of the Month award is Pavel Brendl of Mora IK in the Swedish Elite league.

The 25-years old Czech forward wins the award thanks to a high goal-scoring level throughout the season. He leads the Swedish league in goal scoring with 26 goals scored in 36 games.

The hard shots of Brendl have impressed the Swedish hockey fans. He often takes position at the blue-line when his team has a power-play opportunity and his team-mates are always trying to feed him with pucks. Of course it is almost always risky to have a forward in the defenceman position and Mora has allowed the opponents to score 6 shorthanded goals while Brendl has been on the ice. On the other hand Brendl has scored 12 goals and 7 assists at power-play this season.

Brendl has had 148 shots on goal this season, averaging more than 4 per game.

In November Brendl made his debut for the Czech national team in the Karjala Tournament of the Euro Hockey Tour. He scored one goal against Sweden in the opening game but was held scoreless against Finland and Russia.

The success for Brendl continued in December when 4 goals in the prestigious Spengler Cup tournament earned him a place in the All-Star Team.
